ROAD SALT FACTS

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Each year, road salt is dispensed across streets and sidewalks acting as a deicing agent, providing traction to vehicles and pedestrians

  • Road salt lowers the freezing temperature of water to help prevent the formation of ice

  • Majority of road salt is ineffective at temperatures below -10 degrees celsius

In Canada, majority of reported road salt used consists entirely of sodium chloride (NaCl), similar to your table salt!
